protection while trekking. A good quality raincoat and pants are
ideal as hey will keep you warm and dry in a variety of situations.
Bring a thick sweater or fleece sweat shirt to wear in the evenings,
when temperatures decline considerably. A lightweight jacket or
windbreaker will also be useful. Lightweight hiking boots or good
quality running shoes are must for the lowland trek. For people who
do not routinely walk in the mountains, light hiking boots are
strongly recommended. For longer treks and higher altitude treks

are highly recommended. It is essential your walking boots be
comfortable and broken-in.

Weather : - Putao tourist season is between
November and May, which is winter and best tourist season in
Myanmar. Mostly clear skies, warm during the day and cool evenings.
Temperature steadily decreases between late December and early
February. Average temperature would be between low 10 and high 22
degree C but could drop steadily up to freezing up in the mountains
and often make difficult to scale the top.
Toiletries and personal medical items : -
Travelers should bring a supply of personal toiletries and a basic
medical kit containing nail scissors, moleskin, Band-Aids,
sunscreen, diarrhea tablets, aspirin and a remedy for colds and
coughs. Taking Acidophilus tablets a few weeks before travel can
help prevent bacterial diarrhea abroad. Cipro, available by
prescription, is the best known treatment for bacterial diarrhea. If
you are taking any particular medicines, it would be best to bring
these with you. Please also bring personal item such as flashlight
or headlamp with spare batteries, water purifying tablets and
lighter. A pocketknife, reading and writing material and personal
first aid kit would also be essential for your convenience.
Safety : - Myanmar probably is one of the safest
countries in Asia. There is very little crime and thefts do
occasionally occur in Myanmar. However valuables should always
better be protected, carry your passport, money and other valuables
document with you, or lock them in a hotel safety box. While
trekking you may leave the valuable at our office in Putao. We
recommend using lockable baggage.
Insurance : - It will be compulsory for all
clients to take out their own personal travel insurance, which must
cover trip cancellation, medical and baggage protection plus
adventure activities include emergency evacuation as a pre condition
of booking. Full contact details of the insurance policy will need
to be carried with the expedition.
Emergency evacuation :- In the event of an
emergency while trekking, you will be taken to Putao and flown to
Yangon for further medical care. If necessary, an onward
international medical flight will be arranged. Ensure that your
insurance policy covers you for such unlikely eventualities. Medical
evacuation and hospitalization fees are to be paid for by guests
prior to departure from Yangon.
Photography : - Most people find Myanmar more
photogenic than they had anticipated, so bring more film than you
think you'll need. We recommend bringing some extra camera batteries
as they may not available in the local market. Many villagers are
unfamiliar with cameras and are unwilling to be photographed for
religious reasons or for reasons of personal modesty. When
permission is granted, always be sensitive when photographing
people, and non-intrusive when shooting. Generally, photography is
allowed Buddhist temples and at religious ceremonies and festivals.
Electricity : - Electricity is mainly available
in the Tourist circuit with the current 220 V / 50 Hz. If you are
traveling with any electrical appliances, an international converter
kit and a set of adapter plugs will be essential. Off the beaten
trek including Putao area you need battery-operated appliances with
several extra batteries. You can recharge your batteries while you
are in Putao however, no electricity is available once you leave
Putao.
Tipping : - Tipping is common to porters, guides,
waiters at local restaurants and also usually airports, jetty and
hotel porters.
Time: - Myanmar Standard Time is 6 ˝ hours in
advance of GMT.
