FAQS

1-Q : What currency do you use in Burma? What is the current exchange rate for that currency against the US Dollar?
Ans : The local currency used is called Kyat (pronounced “chat”, abbreviated as Ks). The currency exchange rate is around 1200 Kyats against the US Dollar (as at 1st July, 2006 closing time).

2- Q : I understand that I have to exchange US$200 into FEC (Foreign Exchange Currency) upon arrival in Burma. Does this requirement still exist? I was also told that the FEC is worth about 25% less than the US Dollar when changed into Burma Kyat. Is this correct?
Ans : No. The requirement to exchange the above specified amount upon arrival no longer exists. It is also not correct that the FEC is worth 25% less than the US Dollar. The FEC is officially equal to the US Dollar in value and so far has similar exchange rates (which sometimes slightly vary) to the local Kyat currency.

3-Q : During travel in Burma, can we be able to use our credit cards? If so, what types of credits are commonly accepted? If not, what types of currencies should we bring?
Ans : Currently, credit cards are not generally accepted in Burma. We advise you to bring enough US Dollars for your travel, accommodation, shopping and dining expenses. Some travel agencies and hotels may accept but you have to check with them before you come.

4-Q : How much should I bring for within country travel?
Ans : The amount of US Dollars you should bring will depend on your length of stay and which part of country you will be traveling.

5-Q : I am trying to arrange visas for my friends from the United States that will not have time to receive visas at one of the Burma embassies. Would it be possible for you to help me with this request. Blake – Singapore Oct, 2003
Ans : Yes. Requests for tourist visa-on-arrival from all countries are accepted.

6-Q : What do I need to give you?
Ans : You need to fill in Visa Application form (preferable the form at http://www.myanmarvisa.com/ and make sure you fill Flight No. and Hotel you are staying (or the address) correctly among other things.

7-Q : Do we need to send our actual passports to you?
Ans : No. You do not need to send your passports at all. Just send us the application form by email or fax (+95 1 392886 or 554268).

8-Q : Are there any fees for this service.
Ans : Yes. Official visa fee is 20 United States Dollars. The processing fees is 15 US$ + 20$ documentation charges. We start counting from the time we receive your form submission or application email.

9-Q : How can we pay?
Ans : You can pay cash on arrival. Our staff will be at the Yangon Airport entrance to meet you and collect the fees. He or She will take care of all your entry procedure and you don’t have to wait in long queue.

10-Q : After I fill up the form and submit on the web site or send the form via email, how long will it take to get approved.?
Ans : Normally it takes 2 weeks.

11-Q : Can you send us the Visa form by Airmail?
Ans : Yes we can but if we send by normal mail it will take about at least 2 weeks to Europe and America.

12-Q : When approved, what will we receive?
Ans : Upon approval, we email or fax the official approval letter for you to show your airline and immigration officer at the Yangon airport. We also inform your airline after we verify with your supplied flight, passenger name and PNR code and hotel you are staying. Therefore it is very important to supply us with correct information.
